Captain Don Doggett

Captain Don has spent the last 10 years dedicated to cruising distant harbors on the Great Lakes as well sailboat racing including overnight regattas crossing Lake Michigan. Don holds a USCG 50 ton master captains license and encourages sailing education and safety. He has enjoyed sharing his expertise to promote sailing at several organizations from the East Coast to the Mid West. He has been trained as a first responder and maintains first aid and CPR certifications.

Captain Ivan fell in love with sailing as a youth at a summer camp in Wisconsin.  The quiet magic of harnessing the breeze to sail across the lake was superior to paddling or the racket of a motor.  The love of sailing has drawn him to the water from Maine to the Caribbean and the fresh water paradise of the Great Lakes.  Ivan is the quintessential racer-cruiser, from winning the Mac to cruising the Caribbean, he is at home on the water.  He holds a USCG 50 ton master’s license, as well as teaching certifications from ASA and US Sailing.

Capt. Jean (John) De Keyser is a native of Belgium, a USCG 100T Master and ASA instructor for ASA101-105, 114, and 118.  He is also a member of the Columbia Yacht club. From 2001 to 2006, he sailed on Lake Michigan where he had his Beneteau 343 in Monroe Harbor. In 2006 he moved to Punta Gorda, Florida, and bought Yachting Vacations the leading sailboat charter operator in southwest Florida. He sold the business in December 2014 and returned to the Chicago area to manage his other company, an international logistics services provider. Kevin Kriegel is lead project manager for the electrical / electronics division of Larsen Marine. Kevin holds advanced certifications from the National Marine electronics Association (NMEA), the America Boating and Yachting Association (ABYC), Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as well as all of the major manufactures of Marine Electronic Navigation Systems. In addition to decades of systems engineering, he has been awarded numerous patents related to situational awareness / sensor fusion; key aspects of safety of life at sea (SOLAS). Ben Roy

Ben has been sailing for 10 years on a diverse fleet of boats. He grew up sailing on Lake Michigan at the Milwaukee Yacht Club, and has taught the youth and adult sailing programs there over the last 5 years. In addition to teaching, Ben enjoys racing large and small sailboats, and competed in the 2010 Laser National Championship. Having a pilot’s license since 2011, he has a very broad understanding of meteorology and aerodynamics which can be applied to flying and sailing. He currently attends Lewis University and is completing his bachelors degree in Air Traffic Control.

Jim Johnson

Jim is a Consulting Meteorologist in the Chicago area specializing in Marine and Aviation Weather.  When he is not sailing or teaching weather courses, he is busy as a research meteorologist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and consultant to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on integrating weather information into their new Air Traffic Control System called NextGen. Captain Harry Corbett has been an active sailor for over 40 years.  He started racing dinghies in Cork Harbor, Ireland.  He was active in the Quarter Ton Class before moving on to bigger boats.  He has cruised the south coast of Ireland, in the Mediterranean he has sailed the South coast of France, the Balearic Islands, Sardinia, Corsica, Greece and Turkey.  In the last ten years he has organised charters in the British Virgin Islands ,the Windward and Leeward Islands as far south as Grenada.
