ASA 111: Anchoring Skills Clinic | September 27th | South Shore Yacht Club, Milwaukee, WI: $397.00
South Shore Yacht ClubPrerequisites: ASA 101 Keelboat Sailing 1Master one of the most important cruising skills with this hands-on ASA 111 Sailing Review course focused exclusively on anchoring.
Whether you’re preparing for a bareboat charter, planning extended cruising adventures, or simply looking to improve your confidence as skipper, this practical clinic will teach you how to anchor safely, confidently, and effectively in a variety of conditions.
During this course, students will review anchoring equipment and techniques, learn how to select suitable anchorages, evaluate depth, wind, and bottom conditions, calculate proper scope, set and test an anchor, and safely depart an anchorage. Students will also discuss common anchoring challenges, overnight considerations, and strategies for preventing dragging and other anchoring issues.

- Types of anchors and ground tackle
- Selecting a safe anchorage
- Wind, current, depth, and bottom considerations
- Calculating and deploying proper scope
- Setting and verifying anchor holding
- Anchor watch procedures
- Retrieving and stowing the anchor

This ASA 111 Sailing Review clinic combines classroom discussion with extensive on-the-water practice to help sailors develop the skills and confidence needed to anchor independently.

The ASA 201 Keelboat Sailing 1 Instructor Qualification Clinic is designed for experienced sailors who are ready to demonstrate their knowledge, practical sailing ability and effectiveness as instructors.
Candidates complete advanced written examinations, an on-the-water skills evaluation and both classroom and afloat teaching demonstrations.
Successful candidates earn the ASA 201 instructor qualification, allowing them to teach ASA 101 Keelboat Sailing 1 through ASA schools worldwide.
Format
This clinic combines an evening classroom session, followed by a day and a half of classroom and on-the-water evaluations.

The ASA 203 Coastal Cruising Instructor Qualification Clinic evaluates your ability to demonstrate and teach the knowledge, boat-handling skills and sound judgment included in the ASA 103 Basic Coastal Cruising curriculum.
Candidates complete instructor-level knowledge, practical sailing and teaching evaluations covering vessel systems, handling under sail and power, docking, anchoring, navigation, safety and crew management. Successful candidates earn the ASA 203 instructor qualification, allowing them to teach ASA 103 through ASA schools worldwide.

The ASA 204 Bareboat Cruising Instructor Qualification Clinic evaluates your ability to demonstrate and teach the advanced seamanship, cruise planning and decision-making skills included in the ASA 104 Bareboat Cruising curriculum.
Candidates are evaluated on cruising boat systems, navigation, advanced anchoring, maintenance and troubleshooting, voyage preparation and how to respond to the “what ifs” that can occur when the skipper is away from the marina and must serve as the first responder. Successful candidates earn the ASA 204 instructor qualification, allowing them to teach ASA 104 through ASA schools worldwide.

South Shore Yacht ClubPrerequisites: ASA 204: Bareboat Cruising Instructor certificationHelp sailors develop the confidence to navigate beyond their GPS. The ASA 205 Coastal Navigation Instructor Qualification Clinic evaluates your mastery of traditional coastal navigation and your ability to clearly teach the knowledge and chartwork included in the ASA 105 Coastal Navigation curriculum.
Candidates demonstrate advanced navigation knowledge, accurate plotting techniques and effective classroom instruction covering charts, courses, positions, bearings, compass corrections, tides, currents, wind, leeway and voyage planning. Successful candidates earn the ASA 205 instructor qualification, allowing them to teach ASA 105 through ASA schools worldwide.
Prerequisite: ASA 204: Bareboat Cruising Instructor certification
Format: This is a one-day classroom-based Instructor Qualification Clinic consisting of written, chartwork and teaching evaluations. There is no on-the-water portion.

The ASA 206 Advanced Coastal Cruising Instructor Qualification Clinic evaluates your ability to lead and teach extended coastal passages aboard a cruising sailboat, including operations during both daylight and nighttime conditions.
Candidates demonstrate advanced passage planning, coastal and offshore navigation, watchkeeping, weather analysis, heavy-weather preparation, emergency response, vessel systems, crew leadership and sound decision-making as skipper. Successful candidates earn the ASA 206 instructor qualification, allowing them to teach ASA 106 Advanced Coastal Cruising through ASA schools worldwide.
Prerequisite: ASA 205: Coastal Navigation Instructor certification; at least one year of teaching experience as an ASA 203 Coastal Cruising Instructor and ASA 204 Bareboat Cruising Instructor
Format: This one-day advanced Instructor Qualification Clinic combines written, classroom and underway evaluations. Sailing may include extended periods underway and nighttime operations when conditions permit.

There are no examinations and no new textbook required. This is simply an opportunity to practice, ask questions and spend focused time sailing with an instructor.

ASA 104, Bareboat Chartering | July 17th & July 18th, 2027 | Milwaukee, WI: $1,097.00
South Shore Yacht ClubPrerequisites: ASA101-Keelboat Sailing 1, ASA103-Coastal CruisingASA 104 Bareboat Cruising is a comprehensive cruising course for experienced sailors ready to take on greater responsibility aboard a larger cruising sailboat.
You’ll develop practical skills in basic navigation, cruise planning, provisioning, advanced anchoring techniques, boat systems, maintenance procedures, weather interpretation, and emergency response. You’ll also explore international sailing considerations and learn how to respond to the “what ifs” that might occur when you are away from immediate assistance and become the first responder for your boat and crew.
By the end of the course, you’ll be better prepared to act as skipper or crew aboard a 30- to 45-foot sailboat during a multi-day cruise in inland or coastal waters. Most charter companies require a sailing resume from the skipper and look for an internationally recognized certification such as ASA 104 when evaluating qualifications to charter a boat.ASA 104 also provides a strong foundation for continuing to ASA 105 Coastal Navigation and ASA 106 Advanced Coastal Cruising.
Format: This course is 2 consecutive days with and optional overnight. Students who successfully complete the required written examination and practical skills assessment will earn the ASA 104 certification.

ASA 108, Offshore Passage Making | July 19th through July 23rd, 2027 | Milwaukee, WI: $3,427.00
South Shore Yacht ClubPrerequisites: ASA 106 Advanced Coastal Cruising, ASA 107: Celestial Navigation or ASA 117: Basic Celestial EndorsementStep up to true offshore sailing with Sea Safaris’ ASA 108: Offshore Passagemaking course, departing from South Shore Yacht Club in Milwaukee.
This advanced five-day liveaboard course is designed for experienced sailors who want to confidently plan and execute multi-day, nonstop passages while sailing day and night away from the comfort of the marina.
You’ll stand watches, sail through the night, and rotate through the roles of skipper, watch captain, navigator, helmsman, and crew. Along the way, you’ll gain real-world experience with passage planning, weather routing, nighttime navigation, heavy-weather preparation, emergency procedures, and managing a vessel underway.
The passage is planned to include at least 72 continuous hours and 100 nautical miles without touching land, providing genuine offshore passagemaking experience, not simply a series of day sails. Students who successfully complete the course requirements will earn the ASA 108 certification.
Prerequisites: ASA 106 Advanced Coastal Cruising and either ASA 107: Celestial Navigation or ASA 117: Basic Celestial Endorsement.
Format: Five-day liveaboard course departing from and returning to South Shore Yacht Club in Milwaukee. The exact route and passage schedule will be determined by weather, lake conditions, and the captain’s judgment.
